The A Su Salud program goal is to promote healthy behaviors in South Texas including education, outreach, research and public policy change. A Su Salud began in 1984 as a smoking cessation intervention for low-income Hispanic populations. In 1990, it became a cancer and injury prevention program in urban areas. This program works to reach populations that have traditionally limited access to health information and medical services. By combining theory based practices, mass media and grassroots networking, we reached our underserved community. In the beginning, the A Su Salud program was implemented in:
- Brownsville and San Antonio, Texas
- Brooklyn, New York
- Miami, Florida
- San Diego and San Francisco, California.
The A Su Salud program continues to work with cancer and injury prevention
We use social and mass media to reach approximately 1.5 million South Texas residents and help raise awareness about cancer and injury prevention.
